Modular Fair Exchange Protocols for Electronic Commerce

چکیده
Recently, research has focused on enabling fair exchange between payment and electronically shipped items. The reason for this is the growing importance of Electronic Commerce and the increasing number of applications in this area. Although a considerable number of fair exchange protocols exist, they usually have been defined for special scenarios and thus only work under particular assumptions. Furthermore, these protocols provide different degrees of fairness and cause different communication overhead. The purpose of this paper is to present a unifying solution to the problem. We do this by defining a suite of protocol modules which allow to compose protocols where the achieved degree of fairness can be enhanced step by step. The advantage of the stepwise approach is that after each step one can decide if the provided degree of fairness is acceptable or if one is willing to spend more in order to reach a higher degree of fairness. We show the applicability of our approach by deriving a novel efficient fair exchange proto-

Exclusions and related trust relationships in multi-party fair exchange protocols
Some electronic commerce transactions are inherently performed between more than two parties. In this context, it is thus important to determine whether the underlying fair exchange protocols allowing the secure implementation of such transactions enable participants to exclude other entities from a protocol execution. This is an important point that has not been sufficiently addressed when ana...
متن کاملA methodology for verification of digital items in fair exchange protocols with active trustee
Fair exchange constitutes a fundamental mechanism for electronic commerce. Fair exchange assumes that it is possible to verify the correctness of the digital items to be exchanged. However, when an item is indescribable, i.e., it cannot be formally specified, its verification becomes difficult, if not impossible. This hinders a practical deployment of fair exchange. We propose a methodology for...
متن کاملA Survey on Optimistic Fair Digital Signature Exchange Protocols
Security services become crucial to many applications such as e-commerce payment protocols, electronic contract signing, and certified e-mail delivery, with the phenomenal growth of the Internet and open networks. For these applications fair exchange must be assured. A fair protocol allows two parties to exchange digital signatures over the Internet in a fair way, so that either each party gets...
متن کاملSecure Group Barter: Multi-party Fair Exchange with Semi-Trusted Neutral Parties
The recent surge in popularity of e-commerce prompted a lot of activity in the area of electronic payments. Solutions have been developed for cash, credit card and check-based electronic transactions. Much less attention has been paid to non-monetary commerce such as barter. In this paper we discuss the notion of \secure group barter" or multi-party fair exchange. We develop a classiication of ...
متن کاملSome Remarks on a Fair Exchange Protocol
Fair exchange turns out to be an increasingly important topic due to the rapid growth of electronic commerce An exchange is deemed to be fair if at the end of exchange either each party receives the expected item or neither party receives any useful information about the other s item Several protocols for fair exchange have been proposed in recent years In this paper we rst examine a newly publ...
